findusHai
Hi, we are currently running one of your Passwordstate Installations on Windows Server 2008R2 and IIS 7 and we want to Upgrade the OS and IIS Version. Our plan would be to set up a new Server and than Migrate the Database to the New Server. I know there is a How to on that but i wanted to clear some Questions we have before we do that. - Will all the Settings and Configurations also migrate and be the Same on the new Server ? - Is Migrating the Database the best way to do that or could we just restore a backup of the old server on the new one ? Buckit
Backing up and restoring to a new host always seems the safest decision to me. But then again, I'm no DBA
support
Hello Findus, Yes, all data is stored in the database, except the configuration file for our Browser Based Remote Session launcher if you are using that - this file lives in the path C:\inetpub\Passwordstate\hosts\gateway\gateway.conf. Migrating a backup of your database is the best option, and below are two articles for moving both the web site and database: https://www.clickstudios.com.au/documentation/move-new-database-server.aspx https://www.clickstudios.com.au/documentation/move-new-web-server.aspx We hope this helps. fadler
Hi, I didn't want to create a new topic to keep this forum clear and structured... Currently we're planning to migrate from one hoster to another. Therefore we have to install a new instance of Passwordstate. Unfortunately I cannot tell anything about the SQL Server edition that is actual in use. In the new environment we want to keep licencing fees as small as possible so the SQL Server 2019 EXPRESS edition should be used. Are there any known problems in "downgrading" the edition (let's say SQL Server 2017 Standard is in use right now)? I already read these articles: https://www.clickstudios.com.au/documentation/move-new-web-server.aspx and https://www.clickstudios.com.au/documentation/move-new-database-server.aspx. Do you see any critical points doing so?
support
Hello Fadler, There are no issues from a Passwordstate perspective - we support SQL Server 2012 and above. The only thing to be aware of is the 'Compatibility Level' of your database - we recommend setting this to 2017 before you backup your database and move it - screenshot below of this setting.
