HttpException - The file has not been pre-compiled error

Recommended Posts

Issue:

When navigating to different areas of Passwordstate, if you come across an error that looks like this:

[HttpException (0x80004005): The file '/admin/passwords/bulkpermissions.aspx' has not been pre-compiled, and cannot be requested.]

   System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultInternal(VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile, Boolean throwIfNotFound, Boolean ensureIsUpToDate) +12690646

   System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultWithNoAssert(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile, Boolean throwIfNotFound, Boolean ensureIsUpToDate) +203

   System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVirtualPathObjectFactory(VirtualPath virtualPath, HttpContext context, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean throwIfNotFound) +249

   System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath(VirtualPath virtualPath, Type requiredBaseType, HttpContext context, Boolean allowCrossApp) +56

   System.Web.UI.PageHandlerFactory.GetHandlerHelper(HttpContext context, String requestType, VirtualPath virtualPath, String physicalPath) +42

   System.Web.MaterializeHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +516

   System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +288

Resolution:

  1. Check the space on the local disk of your web server.  This error is normally caused by the local disk being full, and ASP.NET cannot execute our pre-compiled code
  2. We have seen this happen during an in-place automatic upgrade, and it was due to a corrupt download of the source files. Follow the manual upgrade process in this document to repair the install files: https://www.clickstudios.com.au/downloads/version7/Upgrade_Instructions.pdf
